So, what's "Fernweh" anyway?
The reason why you hear Georg speak a language other than English with the kids now and then is because we are a German-American family. "Fernweh" is a German word that describes an intense longing or ache for distant places, essentially the opposite of "Heimweh," or homesickness. If you've ever felt the sense of wanting to just leave it all behind and venture out into the world, that was Fernweh knocking.
